I’m No Triathlete – But I’m Now a Gym Member!

By Kat Gillespie – Marketing Champion

The winter months in Grand Rapids can get a bit crazy; one day it’s 50 degrees, the next day it’s 22 degrees.  My body can’t handle it! So, I am going against the tiny voice coming from my wallet saying, “No, don’t do it!” and I am buying a gym membership, something I’ve never done before. It’s a jungle out there. No joke, especially when it comes to searching for a gym. There are so many, how do you decide which one is best for you?!

Well, I weighed all my options and I came to the conclusion that gyms offer a lot of good deals in January. After much research, I decided to return to my alma mater and sign up to use the Grand Valley fitness center, which also includes a pool!

I have officially stepped up my Tri training game and I am excited for the next 170 days or so before the Grand Rapids Tri. Being a newbie, I would love to hear any training tips you may have for training in a gym. Post them in the comments below and I’ll let you know if I tried them out in my next posts!

On a side note: As I type this I’m watching my weekly motivational show, The Biggest Loser. I am in awe of Jillian Michaels, she is a beast! How sweet would it be to have her participate in the Grand Rapids Tri? I bet having her on the course, would increase everyone’s time by at least a minute or so, for fear of having her catch you slowing down on the course!
