Registration Frequently Asked Questions

How does 2021 registration work?

Registration will open on December 28, but will be a little different from years past as we have numerous deferred athletes to accommodate and many unknowns related to Covid.  Registration will be opened in phases with caps placed on the number of spots available.  As we progress through the year and have a better idea of what, if any, restrictions we will be under we will open additional spots.  Our goal is to make this the best GR Tri yet, but only if we can safely do so.  Registration will be opened as follows:

Phase 1

Registration opens 12/28/20 for two weeks to athletes with a deferral code from 2020.  Using your code during this two week period will guarantee that you have a spot in the 2021 race.  Once we open general registration we can no longer guarantee a spot in the 2020 event.  If you are a deferred athlete keep an eye out for an email coming from us later this week with specific instructions on how to register.

Phase 2

After the deferred athletes have had a chance to register we will open up general registration on 1/11/21, but will cap the number of total entries at 500 per race day for the time being.  If we have 300 athletes use their deferrals then we will open up 200 spots for general registration.  Additional spots will be opened as the situation permits.  We will not be opening any swim only spots at this time (deferred swim only athletes will be welcome to use their registration).  This will be a fluid situation throughout the year so be sure to keep an eye out for emails and social media posts as we will do our best to give as much notice as possible regarding when the next round of registrations will be opened.

Can I change events after I register?

Tris4Health will allow you to change events up until Packet Pick-up.  There are will be no refunds given if transferring to a shorter distance race.  If you transfer to a longer distance or relay, you will be required to pay the difference between what you paid for your registration and the current price of the event you are transferring.  Our registration system will allow you to make these changes yourself by logging in and updating your own registration up until 45 days before the event. After that, you can contact Lori Ott (lori@tris4health.com) if you want to change your event.

What is the Withdraw/Refund Policy?

Since many of our costs are incurred prior to race day and are non-refundable, we do not issue refunds for races for any reason.​ In the event that we need to cancel or reschedule the race prior to race day, you will be given options that may include:

  • Deferring to next year’s race
  • Switching to another Tris4Health Race
  • Racing virtually

If you are not OK with any of these options, please do not register for this event.

Withdrawal requests must be received in writing NO LESS THAN 30 DAYS IN ADVANCE OF THE EVENT via E-mail to lorio@tris4health.com. If for any reason, you need to withdraw from a race you have already registered, you can request in writing a 50% discount off an equal distance or shorter race by Tris4Health in the following year.  For example, if you are currently registered for the half distance triathlon, you will receive a unique discount code to register for a different race the following year.  That discount code will give you 50% of what you paid for your event to register for any distance of any future event.  Athletes will be allowed to transfer their paid registration to another athlete for a $35 fee. Please email Lori at lorio@tris4health.com if you need to make a registration transfer. THERE WILL BE NO REFUNDS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES. This policy will be strictly adhered to for fairness to all.

What are the USAT Grants that are available?

As the National Governing Body for triathlon in the U.S., USA Triathlon is responsible for providing all triathletes and athletes competing in other multisport disciplines with the resources needed to succeed in the sport. Through a number of grant programs, USA Triathlon helps individuals and clubs achieve new heights in specialized areas like military programming, NCAA Emerging Sport of Women programs, duathlon, paratriathlon, youth & junior development and the Olympic pipeline. Do Tri Clubs get a discount?

The Grand Rapids Triathlon offers a discount to all members of a 10+ person Tri Club Team that registers for the event. If you would like a specific discount code for your club, please contact lorio@tris4health.com. We offer free tents to tri clubs! If your tri club would like to reserve a tent on race day or if you have any other questions,  please contact lorio@tris4health.com.

Is there a service discount for our troops, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS?

We support our troops, law enforcement, firefighters and EMS!! If you have a valid ID proving you work in one of these fields, you can take advantage of 10% off your registration prices! Just enter SERVICETRI during checkout, then bring your valid ID with you when you pick up your race packet.

*You must bring a valid ID to prove your involvement with these areas when you pick up your packet – no exceptions will be made.

What about the Double Down Challenge?

There will be no double down medal (for completing Grand Rapids Triathlon as well as Michigan Titanium) this year given the potential for limited registrations.
