Joe Piesz (aka Flounder from Thunder 94.5) – Newbie Triathlete

Joe Piesz grew up in Howell, MI and currently is the co-host for the “Flounder & Marty” Show weekdays from 6-10 a.m. on the Grand Rapids Country Station Thunder 94.5.

After running his first 5K last year, Joe has decided to take the challenge of participating in his first triathlon! So, why not enter into one right in his hometown – the Grand Rapids Triathlon.

Joe has a goal to keep training hard, eating right and getting down below 300lbs by race day. He has been training since the beginning of this year with a trainer to assist him in preparing for the big day on June 9, 2013.

What is one thing you are looking forward to on race day?

“I am looking forward to wearing those really tight fitting Tri Suits because my normal shorts don’t give me a lot of padding on my butt for when I’m riding the bike at the gym.”

What would you say to encourage others to participate in Triathlons?

“You don’t have to be an Olympic caliber athlete to do this. I did my first 5K at 350lbs and just worked out and trained hard. If you put in the effort you can do anything you imagine.”
