Meet the hardworking people behind Grand Rapids Triathlon and the ones who make race day happen year after year. As we prepare for the debut (and hopefully last) edition of the Grand Rapids Virtual Triathlon 9.5 this June, we celebrate the people who volunteer their time and have made GR Tri one of the best triathlons in the state…. or we like to think in the world!

Any race mishaps over the years you like to laugh at now?
While running the half in 2012 I had an allergic reaction coming out of the swim and on the bike.  Since then I have been able to manage my allergies on race day well!

What do you love about triathlon?
Finishing!  Also enjoying the scenery and buzz surrounding race day.

What is your favorite thing about the Grand Rapids Triathlon?
It is a very athlete friendly course, you get to pass other athletes multiple times and it is very enjoyable to see friends and competitors

Your perfect post-race meal?
New Beginnings or Mr. Burger breakfasts

Why should someone still do the Grand Rapids Virtual Triathlon 9.5?
Many like myself may have never done a virtual TRI before and I can’t pass up the opportunity to say during a pandemic I was able to race the Virtual version back in 2020!      Also, why not?!!  Many of us sign up for a race and use that for a major motivation for training.  This still serves that same purpose!!  It may also take away that race day stress for a first timer to triathlon and help them practice for their own race day.
