The Race Directors of the Grand Rapids Triathlon are pleased to announce the addition of a swim only event to the 2019 schedule of events. Races will be held in the Sprint (600m), Olympic (1500m) and Half (1.2 miles) distances. This is a unique opportunity for athletes to participate in an open water swim competition in the West Michigan Area. The swim only event at the Grand Rapids Tri will be similar to our aquabike event. Men will compete against men and women against women (no age group divisions) with prizes being awarded to the top three finishers in each distance men and women. Those athletes competing in the swim only event will receive a participant shirt and finisher medal just like all other Grand Rapids Triathlon participants.

Masters Swim classes are becoming more and more popular with swimmers looking for more events to participate in. Other athletes who are unable to currently participate in biking and running events due to injury or other reasons will still be able to be a part of the Grand Rapids Triathlon. The goal is to make the GR Tri accessible to more athletes and give people a chance to compete in the sport they love.
